Slowly but surely
Eventually the world will move to clean, renewable energy, but it sure is taking a while. Maybe we’ve just been conditioned to expect overnight progress due to the pace of technological innovation in gadgets and computers, but it seems as though we’ve been talking about solar, wind, and hydro for a LONG time. Especially solar–we know the sun can provide all of the energy we’d ever need and yet somehow the cost and efficiency of solar gathering devices is always out of reach.
Part of the problem is the degradation of the government and its role in providing for the good of all. All too often, corporations are in charge of providing power, and their only consideration is profit. If power can be obtained cheaper using a highly polluting fossil fuel, they will use it. Even if the cost is $.01/KW more. Short-term profit is the only determining factor. This leads to a situation where the long-term good of the people is not a consideration, and advances which should have been made by now, such as highly efficient cheap solar panels, have not been made due to lack of funding for the research. Eventually though, breakthroughs will be made, and the government will be reformed to remove this corrupting influence of corporate money so that worthy projects can be funded which benefit all of mankind, instead of just shareholders.
