Interior Decorating, Modern Interior Decorating Ideas

We all want the best looking Interior for our home…don’t you? It’s what makes you feel good inside when everything is in place the way you really want it. When your home’s interior connects with you, it makes you feel totally at peace.
On the other hand, when your home is not decorated the way you want it, it makes you feel embarrassed to invite guests into your home. We’ve all been there at times…feeling awkward when you don’t think your home measures up in style, color and comfort.

So how can you get the look and feel that you really want?
Finding a Place to Start
A good starting place is to think about what effect you want to create in each particular room. Do you want it to be somewhere you can go to relax and unwind after a hard day’s work? Does it need to be somewhere the whole family can go and enjoy themselves if they want to? Or will your decorating ideas need to reflect the fact that you will have to entertain other people in that room?
However you approach the project, it’s important to have a strong set of interior ideas to begin with, in order to make sure that you don’t get halfway through your project and realize you haven’t got any ideas on how to finish it.
What Do You Like?
It goes without saying that your interior decorating should be based on things that you like, whether that is colors, themes, particular fabrics or anything else that may trigger off some good and modern interior ideas.
If you start from your likes and dislikes, you will have a much firmer base on which to plan your design.
Start With a Scrapbook
This is an excellent way to get your decorating ideas out of your head and down onto paper, without having to spend much money starting to put them into practice. It gives you an opportunity to see what your finished design will look like before starting it for real.

Cut pictures, colors and items out of magazines and put them into a rough sketch of your room, to see how they would fit together. You can also go to your local DIY store and grab some samples of wallpaper and paint colors that you like and put those into your collage too.
This will help you to see how the finished results will come out. If you have catalogs with items of furniture you want to buy in them, cut those out and add them in too. This way you will see how your interior decorating can change your whole home.

Interior House Painting – How to Paint Step by Step Process

Painting is an easy and less expensive job to carry out if you are able to do it yourself. All you need is to follow the interior painting step by step process given in the sections below.

The first step is to have the area selected. As a beginner, use the room, that you can use for practice first. The room which is not seen often. For example, your laundry room. Choose the colors and paint sheen. Make your selection according to the area you want to paint. For instance, for your laundry room get paint that is easily washable and also that holds well in the areas where there is moisture. Semi-gloss paint would be the best choice here. Do research when you do not have any color in mind. Look into interior magazines and skim pages with colors that appeal to you. You may also visit a paint store and look at the color pallets they provide. Buy a few samples of paint. Apply a sample on the wall, wait until it is dry and see if that is the color you had in mind.

Once the color is selected, now you have to see how much paint is required. Take measurements of the area you intend to be painted. For a smooth surface, X square feet/400 = Y Gallon and for a rough surface, X square feet/250=Y Gallon where X will be the measurement of the area you will paint and Y will be the volume of paint required in Gallon.

When you are ready to start painting, move all the furniture to some other place or in the center of the room in order to protect it from paint. Cover it with tarps and plastic. Cover the floors with plastic and tarps as well. Remove all hangings from the walls. Use masking tape in order to cover switches, electric outlets and other surfaces that you are not planning on painting.

Once you have covered all the things, wash the walls to be painted. If you are painting doors or cabinets, clean them up with a smooth moist cloth. This will help you to prevent new coat of paint from sticking to the substances that may are present on the surface. Protect your hands by wearing gloves.

Look carefully for the imperfections that you want to get rid of prior to painting. Cover minor cracks with caulk and use various thin coats of drywall compound to smooth out all the imperfections. It is better to start painting from top to bottom. Paint the ceiling first, then paint the walls and in the end paint all the woodwork. Begin painting the ceiling from the edges along the walls by using a brush. Paint 2 inches to 3 inches on the ceiling providing an area to overlap while using a roller. It is better to paint ceiling with an extension pole and a roller which will allow you to stand on the floor. Start from the room corner and move across the thinnest dimension of your room. Carry on back and forth across the area and continue till you complete.

Start to paint walls once the ceiling is dry. Do all the cutting in first working with a brush. Use a high quality brush to make a job easier. Then proceed to painting the rest of the area with a roller.

To avoid spilling of paint on the floors, cover all the area that is being painted very carefully. Remember that painting is always the easy part. It is the preparation work that counts the most.

Interior Paint Finishes – Choosing the Best Finish For Your Painting Job

When choosing a paint color for a room, the selection does not just stop at the precise color; the finish also plays an integral role in the project. What many may not realize is that there’s 5-6 different paint finishes to choose from. Each finish has its own pros and cons which if not analyzed, could deter from the final outcome of the home painting project.

Here’s a breakdown of each individual finish:

Matte Finish

Whether called flat finish or wall paint, this type of interior paint has a matte surface. This paint finish is usually used on interior walls. It’s especially good if you have to camouflage small wall bumps, cracks, or other imperfections, as this finish does not reflect light. While some flat paints are advertised as washable today, you may need to touch up scratches or marks by covering with a bit more paint, so be sure you keep some on hand after you’ve finished painting.

Eggshell Finish

If you can picture the very low sheen of the shell of an egg, you have an idea of how an eggshell paint finish will appear. With only a slight hint of shine or gloss, it’s good for walls and holds up better with cleaning than a flat finish paint.

Satin Finish

Satin finish paint has a smooth, velvety look with a bit more gloss. It is most often used for windows, doors, trim, or ceilings, but can also be used as wall paint. This is particularly suitable for kids’ room walls, kitchens, or bathrooms, or in areas with a lot of traffic. Paint with a satin finish is formulated to hold up to cleaning and light scrubbing.

Flat Enamel

Flat enamel is paint with a durable flat, matte finish. It’s a good choice for powder rooms and halls, as it holds up to occasional light cleaning.

Gloss

Gloss finishes tend to give off a shiny finish imitating the appearance of enamel or plastic. This finish is not recommended for use on interior walls. A gloss finish is often seen on furniture and has recently become somewhat of a trend as a finish on cabinets and trim. A gloss finish provides a dramatic finish but has its disadvantages. Something to keep in mind when choosing a gloss finish is the paint finish will not hide imperfections. If anything the finish will magnify surface imperfections, so thoroughly assess your project area for dings and deep imperfections. Another helpful tip is sanding before starting to paint is necessary.

Finally, let colors unify and complement one another in your interior painting ideas. The key to intermingling multiple floral plus graphic checks in one space is to select patterns that share a common palette
